Why buy the textbook?
Your textbook is your resource. Textbooks give you access to the knowledge, insights and experience of experts in your field. It is a study tool that you can access anywhere, and at any time. Textbooks are carefully chosen by your lecturer to support the classroom teaching provided for your course. It is an investment in your future.

How can I achieve a high GPA?
Buy your textbooks. Your lecturer has evaluated and chosen them to assist you in your studies.

How do I know I am buying the correct textbooks?
The University of Queensland Bookshop starts months in advance of each semester to confirm all textbook information with your lecturer. That information is then verified with each publisher to ensure that all information is correct and current. We are in constant communication with your lecturers to ensure accuracy and with publishers to ensure supply.

What is a course reader?
Your lecturer may create a course reader for your course which has relevant readings from multiple sources. The University of Queensland Bookshop works with your lecturer to obtain copyright permission to create high quality course materials to assist your studies. Course readers are printed at the POD and sold in the University of Queensland Bookshop. Course materials may include course readers, workbooks and textbooks that are out of print.

What is a bundle or course pack?
These are course materials that publishers have assembled. The bundle, or pack will be shrink wrapped and may contain a textbook along with a CD, study guide or web access card. Sometimes the pack will be a prescribed text and a recommended text shrink wrapped together and with a retail price lower than the two items sold separately. Every effort is made to stock both versions - the pack and the individual item- to meet your individual needs.

When are books available for the upcoming semester?
The University of Queensland Bookshop begins receiving books about 8 weeks from the start of the semester. By three weeks prior to the start of the semester over 90% of the titles are usually available for purchase. We source your textbooks worldwide so the exact timeline will vary from title to title as some textbooks need to be sea freighted or air freighted in from overseas publishers and may thus take longer to arrive than textbooks produced by Australian publishers.

Three ways to shop
1.1. In person at the bookshop (Building 4, Staff House Road, St Lucia) next to Wordsmiths cafe
2.Online : at www.bookshop.uq.edu.au

What is Rush?
The busiest days of the semester for your bookshop is at the beginning of the semester. This period is called Rush. The University of Queensland Bookshop prepares for months, extends store hours and trains additional staff to assist you in Rush. Despite all these efforts, including adding extra registers, during peak times it may take a little longer to accommodate you quickly. Just remember the change over times between lectures can be especially busy - why not try buying your books in more off peak times, early mornings or later in the afternoon?

What should I do if my textbook is sold out?
If demand for your textbook has exhausted supply please place a request with Special Orders. This is done at the Special Orders section just downstairs from the general books counter. A copy will be reserved for you and you will be notified as soon as it is available.
